Thursday blursday

  • Not to side with anyone, but voting "present" when the options are yes or no doesn't really sound like taking the moral high ground... it sounds like a cop out.
  • We're gonna pollute and you're gonna like it: what motivation could there be for prohibiting states from protecting their localities? Don't give me this business about making government simpler to understand, either... when has that ever been a consideration for legislation?
  • More sad news from New Orleans: okay, so poor people's houses were destroyed; what makes you think that building a series of middle-class neighborhoods (cheap for developers or not) is going to address their problems? These people have lost everything and the government is still trying to screw them.
  • Propaganda from a reader: the idea that 400 scientists (and not all even in biological or atmospheric disciplines) represent some type of "silent majority" is insulting and wrong; this is the same sort of divide and conquer approach taken by the creationists and it relies on the fundamental reality that scientists like to argue and seldom agree on the little details... the overall phenomenon isn't really in question right now.
  • You tax dollars at work: maybe scams like this are the reason why GW wants to protect the phone companies... never know how much dirty laundry there might be hiding away in the dark corners.
  • A bad idea in the making: when are lobbyists going to get the hint (or be told) to keep their grubby paws out of the election process... it's not free speech, it's tampering with democracy.
  • Thank goodness folks in Russia are so well off the only thing they have to complain about is Coca Cola... looks like the whole "free speech" thing is still sort of new, although Coke is Satan's drink.
  • Shaking up the family tree: since whales came from little deer, does that mean that venison tastes like Minke, or the other way around?
  • Red Sox suck: while I sort of agree with Schilling on this one, I think the guy is a classless loser who sounds like a petulant child ("fans like me" blah blah blah)... let he who hast not sinned cast the first stone, right? I hope the Rocket refutes the charges, but I have a sneaking, icky feeling that you don't pitch that long without a little (or a lot of) help. Bummer.
